How to Calculate Bookbinding Signatures
When printing a PDF to bind into a physical book, you cannot simply print pages 1 through 100 in order. Books are constructed by folding large sheets of paper in half to create "signatures" (or folios), which are then nested, sewn together, and glued at the spine. If you fold 4 sheets of paper in half, you create a 16-page signature. To print this correctly on a home printer, page 16 must print on the left side of the sheet, and page 1 on the right.
